Andradite Garnet from Mount Garnet, Australia is often found in Dunite, a type of ultramafic rock primarily composed of the mineral olivine. Dunite is rich in magnesium and iron and is typically formed in mantle-derived environments, making it an ideal host rock for the formation of garnets like Andradite.
When hydrothermal fluids rich in calcium and other elements interact with Dunite, they can precipitate minerals like garnet, particularly Andradite. These fluids facilitate the crystallization of garnet within the rock, often in fractures, pockets, or within zones of alteration where the Dunite has been chemically modified by the high-temperature fluids.
