These Citrine Smokey Quartz with Phantoms are a rare formation of quartz. This cluster is featured within the host rock, Elizabeth Creek Granite.
The yellow to golden color of Citrine results from trace amounts of iron and exposure to natural radiation. The Smoky Quartz aspect is also formed when quartz is exposed to natural radiation, which causes the iron content to darken.
Phantom inclusions occur when a crystal grows over a previous, partially formed crystal, leaving behind a ghost-like shape inside. These crystals typically form in igneous environments, such as pegmatites or granite veins, where the right conditions of temperature, pressure, and mineral impurities enable the development of these unique formations.
